Imam Ali Cursed Umar (Shia Book)

Some Shias happen to believe that the Imams never cursed the usurpers. Here is an instance where Imam Ali cursed Umar, for the forbidding of mut'ah which meant that illegal fornication and adultery (zina) would become commonplace in the ummah.

The Commander of the Believers said:

May Allah curse Ibn ʿal-Ḵḫāṭṭab, if it weren’t for him, no one would’ve committed fornication, except the wretched [of men and women...]

Source: Biḥār ʿal-Anwār, volume 53, page 31.

An interesting note is that tradition (excluding the cursing) exists in Sunni books as well.

And Muhammad bin Jarir al-Tabari has narrated in his tafsir, from Ali ibn Abi Taleb (RA) that he said:

'If it were not for `Umar forbidding the people from Mut`a, no one would commit fornication except the wretched'.

[Tafsir Fakhr al-Razi, volume 10, page 51]

Interestingly another hadith from Bihar Al Anwar elaborates on this subject, and the reasoning for why Umar would even want to ban mut'ah (a practice prescribed by the prophet) in the first place! See below:
