Imam Ali: Siddiq Akbar (Greatest Truth-Teller)

It is commonplace amongst ASWJ to attribute the title of Siddiq to Abu Bakr (la). In the following hadith you will learn that Siddiq Al Akbar is none other than Imam Ali (as). The false caliph Abu Bakr falsely assumed this title originally meant for Ameerul Momineen (as).

It was narrated that 'Abbad bin 'Abdullah said:
"'Ali said: 'I am the slave of Allah and the brother of His Messenger. I am the greatest teller of the truth (Siddiq Akbar), and no one will say this after me except a liar. I prayed seven years before the people."

[Sunan Ibn Majah, Volume 1, Book 1, Hadith #120]

Al Sindhi said that the chain is Sahih and that all the narrators are thiqa (trustworthy).
Imam Al Hakim declared it Sahih (authentic) upon the conditions of Bukhari and Muslim.

Finally, it is said that the only reason why others called it a fabrication was because they didn't understand the meaning, not because of chain.

Same book, different version. Mentioning in the footnote that all the narrators are thiqah and the chain is authentic per the standards of the Shaikhayn (Bukhari and Muslim).

[Kitab As-Sunnah, Imam Ibn Abi Aasim, Hadith #1324]

[Riyadh An-Nadhirah, Imam Sayid Muhibbudin Tabari, Hadith #1275]

[Kanzul Ummal, Imam Al Muttaqi Al Hindi, Hadith #36389]

Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal has also narrated via his own chain from Ali ibn Ali Talib.

Although Salafi Investigator of this book Shaykh Wasiullah Abbas declares this chain to be Weak/Abandoned due to Ebad bin Abdullah Asadi. But in citing different routes of this Narration he has declared a chain from Khasais Ali ibn Abi Talib by Imam Nasa'i to be Authentic. In this chain Ebad bin Abdullah Asadi is supported by another Reliable Narrator Abu Sulaiman Jahni.

[Kitab Fadhail Sahabah, Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal, Vol 2, Page 43, Hadith 993]

Imam Hakim Neysaburi has also narrated this Tradition from Ali ibn Abi Talib (and from Al Minhal).

He then said : Chain of Narration is Authentic

Note : Imam Dahabhi has criticised Imam Hakim by saying Ebad bin Abdullah Asadi is Weak but above we have shown that a chain in Khasais Ali ibn Abi Talib by Imam Nasa'i is Authentic in which Ebad bin Abdullah Asadi is supported by Abu Suleiman Jahni. So this Narration in total is Authentic.

[Mustradak Ala Sahihain, Iman Hakim, Vol 3, Page 121, Hadith #4584]

A slightly different wording is cited by Imam Dawlabi:

"I am the Great Truthful (Sideeq ul Akbar). I believed in Allah (swt) before Abu Bakr did and Proclaimed Islam before him."

[Al Kanni Wa Al Asma, Imam Dawlabi, Vol 2, Page 155, Hadith 2275]

So from above discussion it is clear that this Narration is Authentic because of all it's chains. Ebaad bin Abdullah Asadi who has been weaken is supported by two others narrators Abu Suleiman Jahni and Maadha AlAdaviyah.

So the title of "Sideeq ul Akbar" was actually for Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib (as) and this title was also snatched from him and fitted on another person.
