Umar and his miracle of Ilm al Ghayb

Umar ibn Al Khattab in a reliable narration once saw a battle over 1500 miles away, saw that the muslim army was in trouble of being ambushed, yelled out to the people to watch out behind the mountain and saved them - All while on the pulpit in Medina.

This means Umar had the ability to:
  1. See like only God can
  2. Hear like only God can
  3. Speak like only God can
  4. Be heard like only God can
Why then is it problematic when Shias claim that our Imams can perform miracles with the permission of Allah (swt)?

Let’s take a look at the distance between the two areas. The war was taking place in Nahavand, Iran whilst Umar was on the pulpit in Medina. Google says this would have taken 361 hours to travel by foot. Thats more than 15 DAYS, and Umar easily saw and spoke to the people like nothing - impressive I must say!

Here’s a the text of the narration:

And the entire narration can be found in English here:

It has been narrated on the authority of Hadhrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar that Hadhrat ‘Umar (May Allah be well pleased with them) had sent an army for a military campaign. He had appointed a person as the leader of this army, who was called "Sariya." While Hadhrat ‘Umar (May Allah be well pleased with him) was giving a sermon, he started saying: O Sariya! To the mountain! After this, a message-bearer came and said: O Commander of the faithful! We were fighting against our enemies. They had almost defeated us. When we heard someone calling out: O Sariya! To the mountain! We stood with the mountain at our back and Almighty Allah gave them a crushing defeat. (Dalaail Un Nubuwwah, Hadith No. 2655; Mishkaatul Masabeeh, Babul Karamaat; Zujajatul Masabeeh, Babul Karamaat)

This Tradition shows many miracles of Hadhrat Umar (May Allah be well pleased with him). One is that being in Madina, he saw a battle being fought in Nahavand (Iran, then Persia), another miracle is that he made the people fighting in Nahavand hear his voice without any apparent means of communication and yet another is that because of his intervention, victory became the lot of Muslims.
