Homosexuality of Sunni Caliphs

Here I compile a list of evidences for the homosexuality of historical caliphs and leaders that Ahlul Sunnah Wal Jamaa'ah hold in high regard. All of these sources are from Sunni historical records.

1) UMAR IBN AL-KHATTAB:

Ibn Sa’ad:

Narrated to us Ishaq bin Yusuf, from Muhammad bin Abdallah and Houdha bin Khalifa, who said: Narrated to us Ibn Awn, from Muhammad bin Sireen, who said:

Umar ibn Khataab said: 

There did not remain a thing in me from the practises of jahiliyya (era of ignorance), except that I don't care whom of the people I have penetrated (Nakh) or who of them have penetrated (Nakh) me.

Alternative Scan



Note: The word Nakh can have two meanings, one is to marry, and the other is to have sex with/penetrate. The famous arabic dictionary by Ibn Manzoor states:

امرأة ينكحها نكاحا إذا تزوجها. ونكحها ينكحها: باضعها أيضا. لسان العرب - ابن منظور - ج ٢ - الصفحة ٦٢٥


A woman whom he has done "nakh" to -- if he were to marry her. And/or it [could mean] that he has sex with her [as well].

The opponents contend that this narration is in the context of showing that Umar was not tribal at all, even before Islam. As you can see by Farid's post below.


The major issue with this claim that affects the translation is that Umar was EXTREMELY tribal, especially in the era of Jahiliyyah! Therefore the second translation is most accurate, especially considering other factors related to his sexuality that we will come to see. A few examples of Umar's tribalism:
Ni'matullah Al Jazairi:

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī said in Ḥawāshī al-Qāmūs in the taṣḥiḥ of luġhat al-ubna, that it (al-ubna) was in a group in the jāhilīyah, one of them was Omar ibn al-Ḵḫaṭṭāb.

(al-ubna/al-maʾbūn is the person that fāḥisha/liwāṭ (obscenity/male homosexuality) is practiced on/so Omar is a sodomite).

ʾIbn al-Athīr also said: “The rawāfiḍh have claimed that our master, Omar, was a muḵḫannath (effeminate), they lied, except, he had an anal disease, which could be cured only by semen.”

Because of Umar's fascination with sodomy, he sometimes had lasting issues secondary to his acquired anal disease. He wasn't even able to sit down to urinate anymore!

Al-Bayhaqi:


Omar said, “Urinating while standing is safer for the anus.”

قَالَ عُمَرُ: الْبَوْلُ قَائِمًا أَحْصَنُ لِلدُبُرِ

2) YAZID IBN MU'AWIYAH:

Ibn Asakir:

After he became the new caliph, Abd Al-Malik Ibn Marwan said:

"I will resort to the sword in order to solve the problems of this nation. I am not the weak caliph (Uthman) or the cunning (Muawiyah) or that passive sodomist (Narrator clarifies that this is in reference to Yazid)"

3) AL-WALID IBN YAZID:

Al Dhahibi described how Al-Walid II was killed:

People chanted: Kill him like the people of Lot (Ie. homosexuals).

Al-Walid II Even slept with his father's wives and after his death, his brother Suleiman said: 

He (al Walid II) once wanted to penetrate me

Admission from Ibn Kathir on the Homosexuality of his Sunni Community:

وهي فاحشة اللواط التي قد ابتلي بها غالب الملوك والأمراء والتجار والعوام والكتاب والفقهاء والقضاة ونحوهم إلا من عصم الله منهم ، فإن في اللواط من المفاسد ما يفوت الحصر والتعداد ولهذا تنوعت عقوبات فاعليه ولإن يقتل المفعول به خير من أن يؤتى في دبره ، فإنه يفسد فساداً لا يرجى له بعده صلاح أبدا ، إلا أن يشاء الله ويذهب خبر المفعول به ، فعلى الرجل أن يحفظ ولده في حال صغره وبعد بلوغه ، وأن يجنبه مخالطة هؤلاء الملاعين الذين لعنهم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم.

Homosexuality has spread amongst the majority of our kings, commanders, merchants, folks, clerks, clerics (fuqaha), judges etc. except those who have been protected by Allah (swt), verily homosexuality contains countless defects, which is why the punishment varies for homosexuals; verily to kill a homosexual is better than allowing him to partake in it, because there is no likelihood of rehabilitation, unless Allah (swt)’s desires that he be cleansed of it. A man should therefore preserve his son during his childhood and adulthood, and he should not let him communicate with these cursed people who have been cursed by Allah’s apostle.

Astonishingly, Sunnis even state that if a Sunni ruler orders one to engage in homosexual sodomy, that it is incumbent upon one to obey him!
